Basics of Fracture Management (EN)

This two-day course will focus on the understanding of biomechanical principles of the fracture management, bone healing, appropriate diagnostic steps, decision-making and limitations of internal fixation. The practical part will cover application of basic orthopaedic implants (screw, intramedullary pin, wire, plates), open fracture reduction and stabilization of uncomplicated fractures (e.g. diaphyseal femur, tibia, radius, metacarpus/metatarsus).



Course schedule:

1 Day

09:00-11:00 Theoretical introduction: ´´Biomechanical principles of fracture management´´

11:00-13:00 Wet-Lab: Osteosynthesis techniques on saw bones

13:00-14:00 Lunch break (lunch included)

14:00-15:00 Theoretical introduction: ´´Uncomplicated diaphyseal fractures of the tibia / femur´´

15:00-17:30 Wet-Lab: Surgical approach and osteosynthesis of the tibia / femur



2 Day

09:00-11:00 Theoretical introduction: ´´Salter-Harris fractures´´

11:00-13:00 Wet-Lab: Fixation with Cross pins / Rush pins / cerclage

13:00-14:00 Lunch break (lunch included)

14:00-15:00 Theoretical introduction: ´´Uncomplicated diaphyseal radius fractures´´

14:00-16:45 Wet-Lab: Surgical approach and osteosynthesis of the radius

16:45-17:00 Wrap-up discussion
